In the Foundation Stage we follow the guidance for the new Early Years curriculum with a strong emphasis on learning through exploration. There is more information about this in the Early Years Foundation Stage for Parents document

We strongly believe that learning for the young child should be fun.

We aim to make our teaching of Literacy and Numeracy fun and practical. Skills are introduced and developed at a pace appropriate to each child. These skills are then developed through practical activities such as cooking and gardening.  Nursery Curriculum Map

Transition from part-time attendance in the Nursery to full time in Reception can be a big step for some of the children.  At a meeting between the School Council and Mr Grace to look at ways of helping the children with this transition, they decided to follow a similar approach that has been adopted in the past by inviting the children in the Nursery to stay for the first half hour of the lunch break to eat with the older children in the hall.

Towards the end of the Summer Term, children in the Nursery are encouraged to stay for an additional half hour and have their packed lunch. Then in the last few weeks of school,  Nursery children are encouraged to stay for the full lunch hour where they will be able to play with the children on the playground. Please let the office know if you do not wish your child to stay for lunch so that arrangements can be made to have them ready to be collected at 12:00pm. We hope that this small gesture will help the children adjust to the longer days in September.
